    ๐Ÿฅค About This Recipe

Tim Hortons Iced Capp is one of my favorite summer drinks! It's a frozen coffee drink created by Tim Hortons. It's made by blending their signature coffee with cream and ice until it resembles a slushie.

When I first moved to Vancouver, I lived right above a Tim Hortons. I used to treat myself to their drinks all the time, especially the iced capps. Something about them is so delicious; they're like a grown-up version of a slushie.

Iced Capps have an incredibly smooth texture. If you have a high-speed blender, like a Vitamix, I highly recommend using it. I've tried making them in smaller blenders like the Magic Bullet, but they don't turn out nearly as good.

    ๐ŸŒŸ Why This Recipe Works

    • Heavy Cream forms the base of my recipe. It's super important, and I'll tell you why. In an iced capp, there's a lot of ice involved, but the ice doesn't add any creaminess or flavor on its own. That's where heavy cream comes in. You might consider using half and half or milk, but you won't get the same flavor or creaminess that the iced capp is known for.
    • Strongly Brewed Coffee: Similar to the above, we need to use strongly brewed coffee to balance the plainness of the ice. I suggest using instant coffee granules and doubling the recommended amount.

    ๐Ÿง‚ Ingredients

    ingredients prepped in bowls
    • Heavy cream: We'll need about ยฝ a cup per serving. Sometimes, if I don't have heavy cream, I'll just use vanilla ice cream. If you want a lighter version, you can use half and half or whole milk, but it won't be as creamy.
    • Instant coffee: Use the Tim Hortons brand for the closest flavor. You can also substitute with โ…“ cup of strong brewed coffee or espresso.
    • Sugar: White sugar provides the cleanest flavor, but feel free to substitute it with your preferred sweetener.
    • Vanilla extract: Use pure vanilla extract or ยผ of a vanilla bean.
    • Ice cubes

    ๐Ÿ”ช Instructions

Before starting, I highly recommend chilling your serving cups and blender. This will make the iced cups stay frozen for much longer. I usually put my serving cups in the freezer and blender in the fridge for 15 minutes.

    stirring coffee mixture in cup
    blending ingredients in blender

STEP 1: In a cup, mix โ…“ cup of boiling water, instant coffee, sugar, and vanilla. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Put this in the freezer for 5 minutes to cool down.

STEP 2: Add the chilled coffee, heavy cream, and ice cubes to a blender.

STEP 3: Blend for 1 minute until smooth. Pour into a cup and enjoy! I topped mine with whipped cream, but you don't have to.

    ๐Ÿ“‹ Difficult to blend?
If you have trouble blending, try making a larger batch or use your blender's tamper to push the ingredients down while it's running.

    ๐Ÿฆ Ice Cream Maker Variation

By the way, you can totally make this in the ice cream maker! Instead of ice, use a full cup of brewed coffee and just let the ice cream maker run for about 40 minutes. You'll have the perfect slushie!

Just be careful not to leave it in for too long; otherwise, it'll become a solid chunk.

The flavor was great (although I do 1 Tbsp coffee cuz more than that is too much coffee flavor for me, might be my brand.) I grabbed 10 ice cubes and it def wasn't enough. I've done the recipe before actually measuring by weight and it was perfect, so highly recommend to all to measure cubes not count cuz it can vary so much.
