Steamed Broccoli may have disappointed you in the past, but not this recipe! This recipe makes perfectly tender but crisp broccoli in only 5 minutes. You can eat them plain or season them lightly with salt, pepper, olive oil, and lemon juice. Either way, they'll be delicious.

    About This Recipe

When I want a super simple and healthy side dish, I always turn to this steamed broccoli recipe. It's super simple and only takes 5 minutes to make. I keep the flavors as minimal as possible to allow the broccoli to shine while still being light and healthy (nothing against you, cheesy broccoli casserole, but sometimes I need something lighter!)

The only piece of equipment you'll need is a steamer rack. I got mine from a Chinese grocery store a long time ago. But if you need one, I found one on Amazon that looks very similar to mine.

If you don't want to buy a steamer rack, you can also roll up aluminum foil into balls and place them at the bottom of a pot. Then, put the broccoli on a heat-safe dish and place it on top of the aluminum balls.

    Key Ingredients

ingredients prepped in bowls; broccoli florets are on steamer rack.

Technically, all you need is broccoli and some water for steaming. But I like to season them with a little bit of salt, black pepper, olive oil, and freshly squeezed lemon juice. I don't really have measurements for them. I just season lightly to taste.

    Instructions

steamer rack placed in large pot with 1 inch of water.

STEP 1: Fill a large pot with 1-inch of water. Place a steamer basket inside and bring to a boil over high heat.

STEP 2: Add the broccoli in a single layer, reduce the heat to medium-high, then steam for 4-5 minutes.

STEP 3: Season with salt, black pepper, olive oil, or lemon juice. Enjoy!
