I love Thanksgiving dinner... not for the turkey, but all the delicious sides that come with it, like this green bean casserole. One time, many years ago, my family had to throw out our turkey (we forgot to put it back in the fridge after applying the marinade), so we only ate sides, and I can't say any of us complained.
This green bean casserole recipe is a budget version of traditional green bean casserole. It's extremely quick and easy to make. The trick is using canned green beans, canned cream of mushroom soup, and crunchy fried onions.
Another bonus is that it can be made ahead of time. You can follow the entire recipe through assembling the casserole, then cover and pop it in the fridge for up to two days. Then, when it's time to bake, just add an extra 5-10 minutes to the baking time.
Key Ingredients

Green beans: You'll need at least two 15-ounce cans. The exact amount does not matter too much. If you want to throw in 3 cans, you can as well, but make sure your casserole dish is big enough.
Condensed cream of mushroom soup: You can also use cream of chicken.
Milk: To help thin out the soup.
Soy sauce: For extra savoriness.
Black pepper: Season to your own taste.
Fried onions: We will need 1 โ cups of fried onions. โ cup gets mixed into the green beans, and โ cup is sprinkled on top of the casserole for crunch.
Instructions

STEP 1: In a large bowl, mix the green beans, soup, milk, soy sauce, black pepper, and โ cup of onions.

STEP 2: Spread into the baking dish.

STEP 3: Bake for 25 minutes until hot and bubbly, then sprinkle on the remaining โ cup of onions and bake 5 minutes longer.

Ingredients
- 2 (15-ounce) cans green beans (drained)
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- ยฝ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- ยฝ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 โ cups French fried onions
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF and grease a 9x9 baking dish.
