These Air Fryer Baked Potatoes come out with tender, fluffy insides and crispy skin in a fraction of the time of a regular oven. Simply oil up your potatoes and sprinkle with salt, then air-fry for 30-35 minutes until crispy.

    About This Recipe

Is there anything better than a perfectly baked potato? Actually, yes. An air-fried baked potato. It's way crispier and done in a fraction of the time. The air fryer's circulation is amazing at crisping up the skin while cooking the inside to the perfect creamy and tender texture. If you don't have an air fryer, this recipe might be the one to convince you to get one.

And who could forget the best part of baked potatoes? The toppings! I personally love a simple pat of butter, but feel free to load it up with sour cream, bacon, chives, or whatever your heart desires.

    Key Ingredients

    ingredients prepped in bowls.

Russet potatoes: Russet potatoes are starchy potatoes, and that is exactly what we want in a baked potato because they bake up light and fluffy rather than dense or waxy. Look for potatoes that are firm and smooth-skinned, and try to find potatoes that are the same size so they cook at the same rate.

Vegetable oil: Since the air fryer is running at 400°F, you want an oil with a high smoke point. Vegetable oil, corn oil, avocado oil, and canola oil are all good options. Extra virgin olive oil has a smoke point of 375°F, so it's best to avoid it.

Salt: Sprinkle on the outside before cooking so the skin gets that savory, slightly crunchy crust.

    Instructions

salt and oil rubbed over potatoes.

STEP 1: Rinse and scrub the potatoes well, then dry thoroughly with paper towels. Using a fork, poke holes around the potato to allow steam to escape. Rub the potatoes with oil, then sprinkle with salt.

STEP 2: Place in the air fryer basket with some space between each one so air can circulate around them.

potatoes after being air fried; skin is slightly wrinkled and crisp.

STEP 3: Air-fry for 30-35 minutes until cooked through. A fork should be able to pierce the potato easily. If you want the skin to be extra-crispy, add an extra 10-15 minutes to the cooking time.

STEP 4: Cut open the potatoes to let steam escape, then top with butter or whatever your favorite baked potato toppings are!
