    About This Recipe

I'm not exaggerating when I say this is truly the BEST steak marinade recipe around. It's loaded with savory and tangy flavor from soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and lemon juice. This easy steak marinade is the no-fuss recipe you've been looking for... and it couldn't be simpler to make! All you do is whisk together the marinade ingredients, then it's ready to be used. You can keep it in the fridge for up to 5 days, or use it immediately for marinating.

This steak marinade is perfect for meal prepping a bunch of steaks for a quick weeknight meal for a few days in a row. The longer you let the steak sit in the marinade, the more delicious and tender it becomes! Use it with your favorite cut of steak (we love ribeyes!) for a dinner everyone will love.

In my opinion, this marinade tastes very similar to eating steak with chimichurri sauce. The flavor is bright and tangy. Usually, marinades do not penetrate the meat very deeply, but this marinade really engulfs the steak with the flavor. I hope you love this recipe as much as my wife and I do!

    Key Ingredients

    ingredients prepped in bowls.

Oil: Oil helps the steak absorb the fat-soluble flavors in the marinade. Because steak is cooked on high heat, you'll want an oil with a high-smoke point, like vegetable oil, canola oil, or avocado oil. I know a lot of recipes use olive oil, but olive oil does not have a high enough smoke point.

Soy sauce: Adds saltiness and flavor. Use regular or light soy sauce. Do not use dark soy sauce, which is a completely different thing!

Lemon juice: The acidity in lemon juice helps break down the muscle fibers in the steak, so it is more tender. Also, it helps balance the richness of the other flavors. You'll need about 2 or 3 lemons.

Seasonings: I love a simple combination of Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and black pepper. If you don't have Italian seasoning, dried basil or oregano works well too.

Hot sauce: Adds a tiny bit of kick- careful not to add too much, otherwise the marinade can get too spicy. Tabasco is a classic choice here.

    Instructions

    marinade whisked in bowl.

STEP 1: In a medium bowl, whisk together all the ingredients until combined. At this point, you can use it to marinate steaks or chill in the fridge for up to 5 days.

What Cut of Steak Should I Use?

This marinade can work with any cut of beef, so use your favorite! If you're planning on eating your steaks medium-rare, I recommend a more tender cut, like ribeye, top sirloin, or NY strip. But because this marinade is loaded with acid, a tougher or leaner cut like sirloin tip, skirt steak, or flank steak could work as well since the acid will naturally tenderize the meat over time. Just be sure to marinate for a sufficient amount of time. I'd recommend at least 4 hours for a tough cut.
