Today we will be making one of the best looking sandwiches, aka a Pork Floss Sandwich (pork sung sandwich). If you have never had one, then you are in for a treat. The main ingredient is pork floss which is a kind of dried pork product with the texture of cotton candy. The sandwich can be customized with whatever fillings you want.

    🥪 About This Recipe

Pork Floss Sandwiches are one of my favorite sandwiches at Chinese markets and bakeries. The use of pork floss makes them very unique and super delicious. They are soft, fluffy, savory, and slightly sweet.

The first time I had a pork floss sandwich was at T&T Supermarket. It was like $5 but it looked too good to pass up so ended up buying one. It was very tasty, and the next time I went to T&T, I bought a whole jar of pork floss so that I could make it at home. Here is a picture of the jar I bought:

Pork floss sandwiches are usually made with milk bread. If you are not familiar, it is a softer and fluffier type of white bread.

There is typically a combination of sliced meat (ham or bologna), eggs, cucumbers, and mayonnaise. You can also add other ingredients like cheese and tomatoes.

    🧂 Ingredients

    ingredients prepped in bowls.
    • Milk Bread: This is my number one choice of bread because it is super soft and fluffy. You can also use regular white bread or brioche bread.
    • Pork Floss: You can buy this in large plastic containers at the Asian grocery store. I usually get the plain one but the one with sesame seeds and seaweed is good too.
    • Sliced Meat: Ham and bologna are the most popular choices.
    • Mayo: I always use Miracle Whip or Hellman's brand for this. I cannot remember where I heard it, but some famous chef said that most Hong Kong restaurants use Miracle Whip. So now when I make Chinese food, I usually use Miracle Whip.
    • Cucumbers
    • Egg: I like to make a quick omelet but you can fry the egg whole if you like.
    • Oil: For frying the egg.

STEP 1: In a small bowl, whisk the egg with one teaspoon of water (or milk).

STEP 2: Heat one teaspoon of oil in a nonstick pan over medium heat. Add the egg and swirl it around the pan until it is a thin layer. Cook for 30 seconds, then flip and cook the other side for 10 seconds until the egg is just set.

STEP 3: Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise onto each slice of bread.

STEP 4: Add the cucumber and egg to the first slice, pork floss to the middle slice, and ham to the final slice.

STEP 5: Combine the pieces to make the sandwich and cut off the crusts. At this point, you can eat the sandwich or refrigerate it for later. I prefer to eat it cold so I tightly wrap it in plastic wrap and let it sit in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
