    About This Recipe

Today, I'm sharing one of my favorite no-bake desserts: Oreo balls! To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Oreo cookies by themselves, but when they're added to other desserts, I really like them. These Oreo Balls have Oreo cookies crushed into tiny pieces, mixed with cream cheese, then coated with melted chocolate. They're soft and crunchy and taste like a cookies and cream cheesecake. Once you try one, you won't be able to stop eating them!

I will say that my Oreo balls do not look very pretty, but they always taste delicious. If you've ever made chocolate-dipped desserts, you know it can get a bit messy. What I've found to make them less messy is to make sure the Oreo balls are completely cooled before handling. I pop them in the freezer for about 20 minutes to cool them down. After that, they are less messy to handle.

Also, make sure your melted chocolate is warm when you dip the Oreos into it. If it's not warm enough, the chocolate will be stiff, and it'll be hard to coat the Oreo balls.

    Key Ingredients

    ingredients for Oreo balls.

Oreo Cookies: Any type of Oreo cookie should work for this recipe. I always make it with the regular ones. You'll need a standard pack with about 36 cookies in it. In my picture, I have a pack of 24 cookies, but I actually used another 12 cookies from another pack.

Cream cheese: If possible, use full-fat block cream cheese because it will make the Oreo balls easier to roll. Tub cream cheese (or cream cheese spread) will work in a pinch, but it's not ideal because it is not firm enough.

Chocolate: For the chocolate shell, you can use any chocolate you prefer, whether that is milk chocolate, white chocolate, dark chocolate, or semi-sweet. Just make sure you use a good-quality chocolate for the best results. In terms of my own preference, I personally love using dark chocolate because the bitterness contrasts nicely with the sweet Oreo's.

    Instructions

Oreo cookies blended into fine crumbs in food processor.

STEP 1: Add the Oreos to a food processor and process until you have fine crumbs. Reserve 2 tablespoons for sprinkling later.

cream cheese mixed with Oreo crumbs in metal bowl.

STEP 2: In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until soft, about 1 minute. Stir in the Oreo crumbs.

Oreo mixture shaped into balls on parchment lined baking sheet.

STEP 3: Scoop 1-2 tablespoon portions and roll into balls. Place on the baking sheet. Freeze for at least 20 minutes until firm. If you have more time, freezing for even longer is better.

    melted chocolate in double boiler.

STEP 4: Melt the chocolate in the microwave or in a double boiler.

STEP 5: Dip each Oreo ball into the melted chocolate, then place on the baking sheet. Immediately sprinkle with some of the reserved crumbs. Chill for at least 20 minutes, or until the chocolate is set. You can store these in the fridge for up to one week, or keep them in your freezer. They actually make a great frozen snack.
