Garlic Butter Shrimp With Sprite is one of my favorite Filipino dishes. I know it sounds weird to add Sprite to a savory dish, but it actually tastes really good. Sprite is just lemon flavoring, lime flavoring, and a lot of sugar. And when you think about it that way, it doesn’t seem as weird anymore. Humans always add citrus and sugar to their foods so why not just in the form of a soda?

🦐 About This Recipe
This dish is very easy to make and you can have it ready in 15 minutes. The last time I made it, I realized I was out of parsley so I had my wife run down to the grocery store to get some. By the time she came back, the dish was already finished cooking and we just needed to add the parsley.
The key ingredient for this recipe is Sprite. Or should I say lemon-lime soda? Because any type of lemon-lime soda will work. It just needs to be sweet and have that citrus flavor.
Contrary to what you may think, this dish does not taste overly of Sprite. At least it is not nearly as strong as when you drink it from the can. I guess the butter really helps tone down the flavor.
🧂 Ingredients
- Shrimp: I am using 21/30 size frozen shrimp from Costco. This means there are 21 to 30 pieces of shrimp per pound.
- Sprite: You can use any type of lemon-lime soda, but you should avoid diet soda as you need the natural sugars in the sauce.
- Butter
- Black Pepper
- Garlic
- Parsley
🔪 Instructions
STEP 1: In a large pan, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and season with salt and black pepper. Cook for 3-4 minutes until both sides of the shrimp are pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp to a plate, leaving the butter behind.
STEP 2: Remove the shrimp to a plate, leaving the butter behind. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the sprite and cook for 3-4 minutes until the sauce reduces in volume by about half.
STEP 3: Add back the shrimp along with the chopped parsley and toss to evenly coat. Cook for 1 more minute and then serve immediately.
