These French Toast Sticks are a fun twist on classic French toast. The recipe is the exact same, but you cut the bread into sticks and roll them in cinnamon sugar. They're perfect for a family breakfast. Kids love them!

    About This Recipe

If you've been following my blog for the last few weeks, you know I've been on a French toast binge! I never knew there were so many different ways to make French toast. A few weeks ago, I shared my French toast casserole, and last week, I shared my classic recipe. This week, I'm sharing another version called French toast sticks!

I initially saw this recipe on TikTok. My wife says this is her favorite version so far because each bite has a little more egg. Also, they're cut into sticks, so you can eat them with your hands. I love drenching them in whipped cream, strawberries, and maple syrup.

You can also freeze these after pan-frying. Just place them on a baking sheet and freeze until they're semi-frozen, then transfer them to a plastic bag. When you're ready to eat them, just heat them in the oven or air fryer until warm. They make for a quick and easy breakfast on the weekdays.

    Key Ingredients

    ingredients prepped in bowls.

Bread: The quality of the bread matters! I love using thick-cut brioche bread because it holds its shape well. You can use any thick-cut bread but stay away from cheaper white bread because I find it gets soggy and falls apart when you dip it in the batter.

Batter: The batter is made with milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Instead of milk, you can also use cream (half and half, coffee cream, or heavy cream all work). The only difference is using cream will make them richer.

Cinnamon sugar: Just mix ยผ cup of sugar with a teaspoon of cinnamon!

Toppings: I love serving this with maple syrup, whipped cream, and homemade strawberry sauce. For the strawberry sauce, I just boiled a pound of frozen strawberries with ยฝ cup of sugar and a few tablespoons of water. Bring it to a boil, and then just let it simmer gently until you need it.

    Instructions

bread cut into sticks with crusts removed.

STEP 1: Cut the bread into 1-inch thick sticks. I cut off the crusts as well, but you can also leave them on.

batter ingredients added to mixing bowl.

STEP 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.

STEP 3: Melt the butter in a nonstick pan. Dip the bread in the batter, shake off excess, and add to the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.

STEP 4: Immediately transfer to the cinnamon sugar and roll on all sides.

    French Toast Sticks

French Toast Sticks make for an easy breakfast that the whole family loves! My wife thinks these taste even better than regular French toast because you get a little bit more of the egg batter in each bite.
