I make Chocolate Covered Strawberries for my wife every single Valentine's Day! They are incredibly easy to make and can be made with any type of chocolate (semi-sweet, milk, dark, white, etc..). Ditch the storebought ones and make these yourself. It's so much cheaper and way tastier, too!

About This Recipe
I've been making these chocolate-covered strawberries for as long as I can remember. It actually didn't start as a Valentine's Day tradition. Initially, I made them for a work potluck, but then I realized they were super romantic, so now I make them for my wife every year on Valentine's Day.
The best part about this recipe is you can use any type of chocolate you want! Milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, etc... Personally, I love making them with dark chocolate because the bitterness pairs really well with the strawberries.
Also, if you want them to be extra special, you can roll the strawberries in roasted peanuts (or pecans) after dipping them in the chocolate. I usually do this for Valentine's Day, and they bring them up a notch. My wife actually strongly prefers the ones with nuts over the plain ones!
Key Ingredients
Strawberries: Get the freshest strawberries you can find. Look for ones with clean, green stems. They will look much better in the finished product.
Chocolate chips: As I said before, you can use any type of chocolate chip you want: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, white chocolate, etc.. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that white chocolate sometimes contains fillers, which will make it harder to melt.
Optional: Roasted peanuts or pecans for rolling.
Instructions
STEP 1: Start by washing and drying your strawberries VERY well. If the strawberries are wet, then the chocolate will not stick to them.
STEP 2: Melt the chocolate using a double boiler or microwave it in 30-second intervals. Make sure you stir the chocolate frequently so the chocolate does not burn.
STEP 3: Dip the strawberry in chocolate, then roll in the nuts if using. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
STEP 4: Chill the strawberries for at least 15 minutes to allow the chocolate to set. Enjoy!
For even more luxury, you can decorate the strawberries with another color of chocolate (I used white chocolate). Melt the chocolate, transfer to a ziplock bag, snip a hole in the corner, and pipe on a zigzag pattern.
