This Chinese-style Ginger Milk Tea is warm, refreshing, and reminds me of the popular ginger milk pudding from Chinese restaurants. It's easy to make and goes great with breakfast.

    โ˜• About Ginger Milk Tea

Ginger milk tea is a popular beverage made by infusing ginger with milk and tea. It's popular in Asian countries like China, India, and Malaysia, as well as in some parts of the Middle East.

I like making ginger milk tea in the style of Hong Kong milk tea. It uses evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk instead of regular milk. The finished drink has a much stronger "milky" flavor, and it just tastes way better, in my opinion.

Ginger adds such a nice flavor to drinks. I didn't really appreciate it when I was a kid, but now I LOVE ginger in drinks, like ginger ale, kombucha, and this milk tea.

    ๐Ÿง‚ Ingredients

    ingredients prepped in bowls.
    • Black Tea Bags (or tea leaves): My favorite black tea is Ceylon tea. It has a stronger flavor and is less bitter than other black teas.
    • Ginger: Using fresh ginger is key. It has a better flavor, and I personally do not like the texture of ground ginger in drinks. I highly recommend grating it on a microplane or mincing it with a knife. It will release more of its flavor faster, so we can have the tea ready in 10 minutes.
    • Evaporated Milk: This is just milk that has had 60% of its water content evaporated. I prefer it over regular milk because its flavor is more concentrated.
    • Sweetened Condensed Milk: In Hong Kong, milk tea is sweetened with sweetened condensed milk, but you can also use sugar. If you use sugar, you'll have to dissolve it when you steep the tea.

    ๐Ÿ”ช Instructions

tea bags and minced ginger adding to boiling water.
ginger and tea bags after steeping in water for 10 minutes.

STEP 1: Bring the water to a boil in a small pot. Remove from the heat, add the tea and ginger, and let it steep for 10 minutes.

Note: If you're using sugar, now is the time to do add it, as you need a hot temperature for the sugar to dissolve.

STEP 2: Stir in evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk. Strain the tea into two serving cups and enjoy! If you're using tea bags, make sure not to squeeze them as it will make the tea more bitter, and the bag could break.

Had it today for breakfast. It was great, I really liked it. Didnโ€™t have evaporated milk tho, so I just used normal milk. Thanks for the recipe
