Chinese Buffet Firm Jello Recipe

This Chinese Buffet Jello Recipe is easy to make and results in firm jello cubes just like the ones at the Chinese buffets. It can be made using either gelatin or agar powder. I have included instructions for both.

Gelatin Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the Jello powder and gelatin.
  • Stir in 2 cups of boiling water until the Jello is completely dissolved then stir in 2 cups of cold water. Transfer to a rectangular container and use a spoon to remove bubbles from the surface. Cover with a lid or plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until firm. Cut into cubes and enjoy!

Agar Powder Instructions

  • In a medium pot, whisk together the Jello powder and two teaspoons of agar powder.
  • Stir in 2 cups of cold water until the Jello is completely dissolved. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat while stirring constantly. Stir in 2 cups of cold water. Transfer to a rectangular container and cover with a lid or plastic wrap. Refrigerate for three hours or until firm. Cut into cubes and enjoy!

Notes

Gelatin: I have found that 1 envelope of gelatin per small box of Jello is required to get the Chinese restaurant level of firmness. Any less and it's not as firm.
