π― About This Recipe
The chipotle sauce at Tim Hortons is unreal. Itβs smoky, creamy, and slightly spicy. If youβve ever had their farmerβs wraps, then you know what Iβm talking about.
As of the last few years, I havenβt been eating Tim Hortons as much, so I decided to try making some of their recipes at home. The chipotle sauce is surprisingly easy to make, and once you have it down, you can use it to replicate a lot of their sandwiches and wraps.
π΅οΈββοΈ Deconstructing The Recipe
Like many of my copycat recipes, this one began with some online detective work. Tim Hortons doesn't list the ingredients for their chipotle sauce online, but I found this Reddit thread where someone snapped a picture of the in-store packaging.
The base of the sauce appears to be mayonnaise and sour cream. Although the ingredient list doesn't explicitly list mayonnaise, it does mention soybean oil and egg yolks, which are two primary ingredients in mayonnaise. If it looks like a duck, swimsΒ like a duck, andΒ quacks like a duck...
The main spices appear to be ground chipotle pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Most online chipotle sauce recipes call for canned chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, so we can use that instead of ground chipotle pepper. It tastes way better anyway.
They also use vinegar, but we need to be careful not to add too much, or else the sauce will be runny. And honestly, runny sauce coming out of a wrap is one of my least favorite things.
π§ Ingredients
- Chipotles in Adobo Sauce: Chipotle peppers are the key ingredient to any chipotle sauce. They bring flavor, heat, and smokiness. You can find these in the international or Mexican section of most grocery stores.
- Sour Cream: It's super important to use full-fat sour cream (14%), or else the sauce will be thin and runny.
- Mayonnaise: I recommend using Hellman's or Miracle Whip. I used to work in the fast food industry, and these were the most common brands.
- Vinegar: Don't add too much, or else the sauce will be runny. I actually prefer using citric acid powder to give it acidity without making it runny, but I understand most people don't have this at home.
- Spices: Onion powder, garlic powder, and optionally some cayenne powder for heat (I add less than β of a teaspoon).
πͺ Instructions
STEP 1: Combine all ingredients in a food processor (including some sauce from the can) and blend for 30-45 seconds until smooth.
The sauce will last for about one week in the fridge. But, check the expiry on your sour cream. If your sour cream is going bad, it won't last as long.

Is this the same sauce they use in their Farmerβs wraps?

Yes! Chipotle sauce is the Farmer's wrap sauce.
