Snickers Salad is definitely one of the most interesting salads out there. Popular in the Midwest, it combines Granny Smith apples, Snickers bars, vanilla pudding, and Cool Whip. If you've never had it before, now's your chance! I've been seeing it all over social media, so I was really excited to make this one.

About This Recipe
Like all Midwest "salad recipes", I first wondered why anyone would make this. But after a few bites, I started to realize why people love it so much. You get crunchy and refreshing bites of apple, soft chewy bits of chocolate, all covered in a luxurious vanilla cream pudding. It's sweet, creamy, and tart all at the same time. It kind of reminds me of a caramel apple, but mixed with a bunch of cream.

The process for making it is also incredibly easy. All you do is chop the Snickers and apples into bite-sized pieces, combine the vanilla pudding and Cool Whip separately, and then fold everything together. For the best taste, you're supposed to refrigerate it for 30 minutes, but I couldn't help myself from having a bowl while photographing this post. Luckily, this recipe makes quite a big bowl, so I had enough left for the photos.
Key Ingredients

Granny Smith apples: The best apples to use are Granny Smith apples because they have a tart flavor that balances well with the sweet and creamy ingredients. To prevent the apples from browning after you cut them, you can toss them with a few squeezes of lemon juice.
Snickers bars: You'll need 6 full-sized Snickers candy bars, but you can add more if you want.
Cool Whip: You'll need an 8-ounce container of Cool Whip. Remember to defrost it 3-4 hours before making the recipe.
Vanilla pudding: This is mixed with milk first, then folded into the Cool Whip. The flavor of vanilla goes so well with the other ingredients.
Milk: For mixing with the vanilla pudding. Any type of dairy or nondairy milk can be used.
Instructions

STEP 1: In a medium bowl, whisk together the pudding and milk and refrigerate until thickened. Fold in the Cool Whip.

STEP 2: Fold in the Cool Whip.

STEP 3: To a large bowl, add the Snickers, apples, and pudding mixture. Fold until combined.

STEP 4: Serve immediately or refrigerate until needed. Garnish with caramel sauce, if desired.
