What To Do With Leftover Fried Rice

Most of this post will feature various recipes, but here's a basic rundown of everything you can do:

    • Add extra protein: Whether mixing in some chopped bacon or serving grilled pork chops on top, adding extra protein is an excellent way to transform leftover rice into a main dish.
    • Add a fried egg: Frying an egg quickly adds an extra dimension to fried rice.
    • Transform it: Transform it into a completely new dish like omurice (Japanese stuffed omelet), arancini balls (deep-fried rice balls), waffles, and even crispy pancakes.
    • Bake it: This is my absolute favorite method. I recommend baking it in Hong Kong style. Combine the leftover rice with pork chops, tomato sauce, and cheese, and bake until crispy and melted.

    1. Omurice (Japanese Omelet Rice)

Omurice is fried rice wrapped in an egg omelet. It's a fusion of Asian fried rice, a Western omelet, and ketchup.

It's super easy to make. Simply reheat the fried rice with a couple of spoonfuls of ketchup and wrap it in an egg omelet.

The omelet's texture contrasts beautifully with the chewiness of day-old fried rice.

    2. Crispy Rice Waffles

This recipe is a fun way to elevate fried rice with a brand-new texture. While you usually cook the rice over a direct flame to get that crispy scorched layer, you can do the same with a waffle maker!

Simply spray the inside of the waffle maker, then fill it with leftover rice. I love serving this with a squirt of sriracha or mayonnaise on top!

    3. Pineapple Sriracha Breakfast Bowls

Use up any leftovers in your fridge with these quick and tasty Pineapple Sriracha Breakfast Bowls. Simple and adaptable to what you have on hand.

Feel free to toss in any ingredients like bell peppers, peas, broccoli florets, cashews, jalapeรฑos, and ham.

    4. Fried Rice Arancini

This recipe transforms leftover fried rice into crunchy, golden brown nuggets that resemble arancini. Simply mix the leftover rice with egg, shape it into balls, and coat it in panko breadcrumbs before frying.

They taste best served hot and crispy. Serve it with duck sauce or hot mustard for one of my favorite leftover fried rice recipes.

    5. Rotisserie Chicken Fried Rice

Why not add some rotisserie chicken to your leftover fried rice?

Simply heat up the rice and toss some chicken into the mix. It's a great way to elevate your dinner without too much fuss.

    6. Steak Fried Rice

I love steak, so this rice dish is right up my alley. You can cut the steak into cubes and mix it into the rice or serve it whole on the side.

Any steak like sirloin or ribeye will do. Ensure you marinate the steak for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors penetrate the meat.

    7. Hong Kong Baked Pork Chop Rice

This is one of my favorite recipes for leftover fried rice! It has delicious pork chops coated in a savory tomato sauce and melted cheese.

The tomato sauce is to die for. The tartness of the tomatoes is perfectly balanced with the sweetness of sugar and ketchup and the richness of oyster sauce.

Ensure you caramelize the onions to give them extra depth and sweetness.

    8. Bacon And Egg Fried Rice

Bacon and eggs are an excellent way to spice up leftover rice.

I recommend cooking the bacon first to render some of the fat. Then, use the fat to cook the rice! It will infuse the grains with the savory goodness of bacon.

    9. Chicken Fried Rice Burrito

Do you love fried rice? Love burritos? Why not bring them together? This tasty recipe elegantly repurposes leftovers for a delicious meal!

Don't skip the vegetablesโ€”the vibrant slaw adds a bright, crunchy contrast to this hearty, handheld dinner.

    10. Fried Rice Cakes

Fried rice cakes are an easy way to change the texture of fried rice, and this recipe is great because it only requires some oil and an egg for binding.

Simply shape the rice and pan-fry until both sides get crispy.
